My successes.

Still, in its infancy, the Oasis is a popular spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. We have opened the interior wall to the Good News Books Center next door, enabling customers to easily flow between. The conference room, which is available for reservations, makes it an attractive place for business meetings while the live music on Fridays and Saturdays makes it likewise attractive to connect with friends, old and new.  More details are on their website oasiscoffeespot.com.

What inspired you to start your business?

Over three years ago, a vision captured Jerry Hekhuis, a vision of a coffee shop that through its products, service, and atmosphere would be an Oasis in Pasco County, Florida. Jerry's best friend from high school thirty years ago was also captured by the vision... so much so that, in August 2010, Mike VanEerden and his family moved from Grand Rapids, MI to join the Hekhuis family in the Oasis Coffee Spot which opened in July 2010.

How SCORE helped.

SCORE was involved from the early planning through its opening and operations. So far, over fifty mentoring sessions have been conducted involving business plan development, cost case development, task identification and prioritization, and project management. SCORE is viewed as an integral member of the Oasis team.
